Some VMI guys find brilliant ways to turn a hobby into their way of life.
But most of those guys envy Jim Leavitt, VMI Class of 1979. After four years in the Navy and then UVA business and law schools, Jim became a taxable municipal bond trader. His love for SCUBA diving took him to Grand Cayman, known for its world class underwater sealife. Eventually he transitioned out of the financial services industry to invest in real estate on the island.
Now Jim is the principal owner of Grand Cayman Villas. Based right here in Richmond, Virginia, the firm is a management company for over 250 oceanfront vacation homes on Grand Cayman Island. He scrutinizes every one against high standards before agreeing to manage its rental business.
"It is our goal is to make your Cayman Islands vacation rental experience as stress-free and memorable as possible. We want you to come back to us," he makes clear on the company's website. Jim visits the island regularly now, logging the trip as a business expense no doubt.
Jim owns two of these very nice homes, Grand Cayman Castle and its Guest House. Look familiar? It might look like Old Barracks from the outside, but rest assured, even the Superintendent's home cannot compete with luxury on the inside. Supe doesn't have an infinity edge pool on the Caribbean Sea either...
My wife and I spent 10 days in the guest house, escaping our four kids a few months after the twins were born. We used Jim's recommendations on restaurants, dive operators, and even had a mother-daughter chef team prepare some Caribbean meals one night.
We can assure you first hand, Jim has the Grand Cayman Island way of life figured out.
